Tanadrine-Studios's News

Brakkian "vehicles" come in all different shapes, sizes, and types. Some Brakkians construct their "guise" out of dead organic materials or with a mixture of synthetic compounds. Example shown below; this one was made by Raymation3d.

On a side note, I set up my playlists below... I'm so glad the NG crew put this feature in as it resolves so many organizational issues I had concerning content. It is so nice to be able to categorize my submissions!!

In the universe of Delura, there is a division between old and new technology. In this case, old does not always equate to obsolete, but rather a different way of thinking. As LI.BA.SIE and advanced telepathic-based technology took over, some entrepreneurs realized that quite a few people could not afford or gain access to it. So, while modern technology was meant to replace the old entirely, consequently it only spawned a new industry consistent of physical devices and heavily hardware-based components (as opposed to mostly holographic in modern tech).

Below is an example of a Relictech style ship made by Oystein with thruster jets in place of force platforms for movement.

Retro vs Modern

I am looking to replace audacity as my audio editor... the image below explains. The program shown is called "Reaper". The price ain't too bad either (for "commercial" purposes under 20k/yr, the program is only $60)

Now that I think about it, the tools I seem to like the most are the ones that lack "selection modes", or "modes" in general. I just really like context sensitive controls.

I still need to get past the initial learning curve of the program; most of that curve lies in figuring out what pre-built effects/filters are available that are equivalent to the effects/filters I typically use in Audacity to create new sounds. Usually, I use household items to produce sounds then edit the hell out of them to give them a unique effect. Example: Using a combination of phaser and pitch shifting, you can make the jarring sound of rubbing a dry balloon sound like electricity.

Lighting and rendering... that's all I'll be doing for the next few days.

Based on initial calculations, it looks like render times are hovering between 5 to 15 minutes per frame (at 15 frames per second). We do have 3 similarly-built systems over here... 2 of which were donated to us months back, so as long as they don't reach memory ceilings or explode I can divide up the renders somewhat to reduce calculation times.

For reference, episode 5.3 will be approximately 6 minutes long. At 15 frames per second, that means 5,400 frames. So, somewhere between 450 and 1350 machine hours are required to make this episode happen.

Below is just some dev commentary. More to come!

I am working on the lighting elements of this episode and I have some new tricks up my sleeve to make things look better than they ever have previously... among them including image masking to help give me another level of control over lighting.

This episode is going to put the graphics of all the previous installments to shame! :)

Renders: So far so good.

Just a bit of a visual update and some behind the scenes footage.

Sorry there's not much more to report... I really, really want to get this damn installment done! I've just finished converting many of the scene file animations into MDD files (basically sacrifices changeability for less sluggish editing) and will be starting the final lighting/composition process soon.

In the meantime, I think I'll post some screenshots of some of the content volunteers have made. I had asked Delura volunteers if they could make me some random ships for this episode, and they have some creative ideas.

This one was created by Raymation3d. Kinda reminds me of the guidebot from the Descent series and consequently I decided to make it an automated repair-bot that resides in the vehicle workshop.

Modeling is mostly done, I may decide to add some last minute details such as an antennae that flops around procedurally as it walks whatever. I still need to UV and texture this dude... I figured I'd put a few bumper stickers and grunge detail as I flesh things out. I can't wait to animate this character.

Although... I want to make a "blockier" version of this model if I have another similar character down the road because I kinda liked the retro look of the prototype.

Brakkian Mech Model 002

I'm working on the model referenced in this sketch from my earlier news post. Been busy with college projects recently but I try to get at least a little bit of work done daily.
